Here is a poem I wrote about the Starting Line:


Ode to my Favorite Band

A band plays an energized melody,
Lights fade and the curtain rises,
A singer croons his wistful lyrics,
It's had to believe they're only teens,
They play with charisma and style,
The music is fast and melodic,
To pure to be punk.
There's something in the music,
It has mystical powers,
It can bring my ex and I together,
To drive to a club to states away,
There's a spark in the air,
Even my friend's video camera can't see.
The moments can't be relived,
Each show is different,
Though the songs stay the same.
There's a force brining me back,
It can never be explained.
It's more than energy,
It's more than the singers looks,
It's even more than the music.
There's a feeling of intimacy,
It's a secret well kept.
Only one band ever
Made me feel the same way,
As The Starting Line guys do.
When I saw NFG one October night,
Half a crowd gathered in Showplace.
They opened for Blink and ruined it all,
Crowds gathered, punks, preps, and Posers a like.
After that it wasn't the same,
I lost the intimacy and love for the band,
I always did hate sharing.
It may seem selfish,
But there's something to be said,
About small clubs and obscure bands.
I pray that Ken and the guys,
Will stay hidden away,
And I will always be willing to spend,
Random nights watching
The Starting Line again.

The Starting Line are a band out of PA, they were formaly known as Sunday Drive. The Starting Line are Ken, Mike, Matt, and Tom. They have one album out as the Starting Line, called With Hopes Of Starting Over, they have a a second one coming out on July 12, called Say It Like You Mean It.
